Solaris Pre-Order Information

Solaris Pre-Order Information

Pre-orders for Stanislaw Lem’s Solaris will open in November (see exact dates and times below). This marks the first-ever print edition of the only direct-to-English translation of the novel, restoring the author’s original character names, meanings, and stylistic subtleties, while faithfully capturing his semi-philosophical and poetic language.

For over thirteen years, this translation has only been available as an e-book and audiobook, despite the best efforts of the Lem estate to bring it to print. We’re proud to be partnering with Bill Johnston, the Lem estate, and Faber & Faber to make this a reality, bringing this important piece of literature to a wider audience in a landmark edition.

The edition also includes an afterword by acclaimed Polish literary scholar Jerzy Jarzębski, translated into English for the very first time.

Matt Murphy has contributed sixteen bold, full-colour illustrations and fourteen black and white pieces. All of the artwork for the edition will be printed offset while the text will be letterpress-printed by Hand & Eye Editions. Every copy will be hand bound by Ludlow Bookbinders.

Copies will be available as follows:

Monday, November 11th at 10am ET: Solaris Collector’s, Deluxe, and Lettered Editions will be revealed along with pricing.

Wednesday, November 13th at 10am ET: An email with be sent to all rights holders with an opportunity to pre-order matching copies of the following books during a private 48-hour pre-order window:

  • Lettered copies.
  • Deluxe copies numbered #1-150.

Friday November 15th at 12pm ET: the following will be available to the public:

  • Deluxe copies between #1-150 which went unclaimed during the private pre-order period, if any. These will be assigned on a first come, first served basis as Deluxe copies are sold.
  • Deluxe copies #151-200.
  • All Collector’s Editions.

I’m very much looking forward to sharing more soon.
