Weird.
Cold Print & Others by Ramsey Campbell is the second volume of Weird., a series of fine press weird fiction volumes curated, edited and introduced by S.T. Joshi. Drawing from Joshi’s extensive and distinguished career, these collections feature the very best work from the most celebrated and influential voices in the genre.
Ramsey Campbell is one of the most acclaimed voices in modern horror. For more than fifty years, his fiction has shaped and expanded the boundaries of the genre, earning widespread recognition for its psychological depth, atmospheric unease, and linguistic precision. Drawing horror from the subtle distortions of everyday life, Campbell’s work is marked by a uniquely British sense of dread—quiet, insistent, and inescapable.
Described by series editor S.T. Joshi as “one of the most accomplished authors of our time,” Campbell has won numerous accolades over his long career, including the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Horror Writers Association, the Living Legend Award of the International Horror Guild, and the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Carefully selected by S.T. Joshi, this volume gathers twelve of Campbell’s most haunting short stories, spanning over four decades of his career. From tales of creeping paranoia to supernatural terror rooted in urban decay, these stories demonstrate the range and power of Campbell’s craft.
Included are:
- Cold Print
- Concussion
- The Scar
- Napier Court
- The Cellars
- The Man in the Underpass
- The Chimney (winner of the 1978 World Fantasy Award for Best Short Story)
- The Little Voice
- Mackintosh Willy (winner of the 1980 World Fantasy Award for Best Short Story)
- Out of the Woods
- Becoming Visible
- At Lorn Hall
Edition Information
This edition of Cold Print & Others by Ramsey Campbell is limited to 676 copies and is published in three states: Collector’s Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Lettered Edition, along with five sets of unbound sheets. The bindings/enclosures of all three states have been designed to align with those of the first volume, ensuring a cohesive look across the series.
This edition features an original introduction by S.T. Joshi and a never-before-published interview with Ramsey Campbell.
Artwork
A trio of immensely talented artists have come together to bring Campbell’s haunting world to life. While each brings a distinct style and sensibility, their work responds to and builds upon one another’s visions. The result is a unified visual language steeped in the macabre and uncanny—perfectly suited to the disquieting depths of weird fiction.
Marcela Bolívar has contributed twelve full-colour illustrations—one for each story—as well as an additional piece used as endpapers in the Collector’s and Deluxe Editions, and on the interior of the Lettered Edition’s solander box.
Sveta Dorosheva created the emblem artwork inset on the cover of the Collector’s Edition and tipped into the Deluxe and Lettered Editions. She also illustrated three interior decorations: a headpiece that appears at the start of each story, and two alternating tailpieces featured at the end of each. All of Sveta’s work has been letterpress printed and she will be providing the emblem artwork for all future volumes.
Svetlana Molodchenko, who hand-lettered the title for every copy of the Roman Numeral edition of Joe Hill’s Faun, also created the title design for this edition. She will be designing the titles for all future volumes.
The edition is printed by Nomad Letterpress and has a trim size of 170mm by 240mm (6.7in by 9.5in) with 263 pages. I’ve set the text in LTC Kennerly and all copies are handbound by Ludlow Bookbinders.
All copies are signed by Ramsey Campbell, S.T. Joshi and Marcela Bolívar.
As with every Conversation Tree Press book, you can expect:
- A newly typeset book, thoughtfully designed in harmony with the binding, artwork, and subject matter.
- All colour artwork reproduced in full colour across all three editions.
- All artwork included in every state.
- A limited edition that will never be reprinted.
- A custom, handmade slipcase or other enclosure made of thick, sturdy boards with the insides lined in Suedel for maximum protection, at no additional cost.
Emblematic Artwork
In addition to the interior artwork, each volume in the series will be accompanied by a piece of artwork inspired by the allegorical emblem artwork of the Renaissance, as seen in George Wither’s A Collection of Emblemes, Ancient and Moderne.
These emblems typically comprised a motto, intricate artwork, and explanatory text, often featuring mythological creatures, biblical scenes, natural elements, and allegorical figures, each meticulously chosen to visually represent the layered meanings within the emblem.
The rich symbolism, allegories, and atmospheric mood of emblematic artwork is the perfect complement to our collection of weird fiction.

Sveta Dorosheva’s intricate black-and-white composition draws heavily on the grotesque, the allegorical, and the uncanny, containing visual echoes of all of the twelve stories in the collection. She will also be providing the emblematic artwork for future volumes, in a similar composition and style, ensuring a cohesive look across the collection.

Lettered Edition
The Lettered Edition shown here is a proof-of-concept binding and a little rough around the edges. During development, we saw an opportunity to improve the original concept—evolving from a simple inset leather inlay to a carefully skived and sculpted raised design. Final production photos will be shared once complete.
Availability:
1. Wednesday, June 11th at 10am ET: Collectors who ordered a Lettered Edition of The House on the Borderland & Others directly from the Press, or from someone else. If you bought a copy from someone else and haven’t already let me know, please send me an email.
2. Friday June 13th at 12pm ET: Any remaining copies of the Lettered Edition become available to the public.
The Lettered Edition is limited to 26 copies hand bound by Ludlow Bookbinders. The binding evokes the creeping dread that runs through Campbell’s stories—an atmosphere of slow, inescapable entanglement.
Fully bound in black goatskin leather, it features a dark green leather strip suggestive of the organic forms that twist through both the stories and Marcela Bolívar’s illustrations. Unlike a flush inlay, the form has been carefully skived and tapered along the edges, allowing it to rise subtly from the surface. This sculptural effect, paired with the extensive blind stamping, adds dimension and tactility, echoing the unease and hidden menace that lurk beneath the familiar throughout the volume.
Paper for the Lettered Edition is upgraded to mould made Magnani Pescia 160gsm (120lb) paper.
Sveta Dorosheva’s emblem artwork is tipped in at the front of the book, and the top edge is gilded.
The book is housed in a solander wrapped in premium book cloth in a linen finish, with the trays covered in black Dubletta fabric. The spine features a goatskin leather label foil-stamped in gold and the inside is lined with Suedel and a strip of the artwork used as endpapers for the Collector’s and Deluxe Editions.
Every copy includes “rights” to pre-order a matching letter of the third volume in the Weird. series during a private pre-order period when it is published. These rights are transferable. Rights to Guy Gavriel Kay’s Tigana, which will be available for pre-order in late July, are not included as those rights reside with our edition of Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas.

Typography
Weird. is set in LTC Kennerly, designed by prolific and highly-regarded type designer Frederic Goudy. The typeface was designed for, and first used, in The Door in the Wall And Other Stories by H.G. Wells, a collection of weird fiction. With its eminently readable characters, subtly quirky design, and elegant swash capitals in the italics, LTC Kennerly adds a distinct character that elevates the haunting narratives, enhancing the reading experience without overwhelming the text.
