An Update on Tariffs

An Update on Tariffs

A 25% tariff on Canadian imports into the United States was narrowly avoided a few days ago, but the threat remains. Conversation Tree Press is my full-time job and Danielle’s part-time job, but we are just one of many Canadian businesses and families who could be severely impacted by such a decision.

Over the past few months, we’ve explored various options to minimize the potential impact of tariffs for both ourselves and our U.S. collectors. I’m pleased to share that we have a solution.

If tariffs are enacted, we have arranged for our books to be shipped directly from Ludlow Bookbinders in the U.K. to a fulfillment partner in the U.S. This would ensure books sent to U.S. collectors are shipped domestically, avoiding any tariffs. We are very thankful that this arrangement is possible.

What this means:

  • The Ray Bradbury Short Stops books will arrive in Canada by the end of this week and go on sale next week—February 11th for current rights-holders and February 13th for the public. Since shipping will begin immediately and no tariffs are currently in place, there is no cause for concern.
  • The House on the Borderland & Others will be completed in March or April. If tariffs are in effect at that time, copies will be sent to the U.S. for fulfillment.
  • The Tom Kidd book will open for pre-orders at the end of this month (February) and begin shipping later this year. If tariffs are in effect when the books are ready, they will be sent to the U.S. for fulfillment.

Having books fulfilled from the U.S. will only occur if tariffs come into effect. If that happens, we will provide more information at that time. Otherwise, fulfillment will continue from Canada.

Danielle and I are incredibly grateful for the support of our collectors in the U.S. and around the world. While the uncertainty around tariffs remains, our commitment to delivering thoughtfully made books—and making the process as easy as possible—has not changed.

Thank you for making this journey possible and we look forward to sharing many more books with you in the years ahead.
