Wilfrid Laurier University Internship Program

Wilfrid Laurier University Internship Program

Danielle and I are happy to announce that we’re partnering with Wilfrid Laurier University on their internship program. WLU is right here in our community, and this partnership—alongside our Bound for Good program—is another way we’re contributing close to home.

Students enrolled in the Master’s of English and Film Studies program have the option of taking the Professional Skills Options pathway, where they spend six weeks in an internship to broaden their knowledge of literature, bookmaking, and publishing.

For the next five years, we’ll be taking on a paid intern from the program and showing them the behind-the-scenes work of running an independent publisher.

Nikola is in her fourth week here—so this announcement is a bit overdue—and she’s been an immense help moving several projects further along.

Hear from Nikola herself:

My name is Nikola Lukezic and I am the new intern at Conversation Tree Press. This internship is part of my program at Wilfrid Laurier University, located in Waterloo, ON. Canada, where I am completing a Masters of English and Film Studies. I have the privilege of working with Tony and Danielle for the next six weeks as they teach me about all the different aspects of their publishing processes, and the publishing industry in general.

Throughout my M.A., I have taken interesting classes such as The Victorian Novel and Cyberpunk Film and Fiction which is why CTP is the perfect Press for me to learn from. Their excellent book selection is not only meticulously chosen by Tony and Danielle, but are also intricately designed to please book-lovers like myself.

With my background in English literature, I have always had a love for words and a good story. However, learning about the complicated obstacles they have to work through makes me appreciate the quality of books much more now. The experience of reading is not just due to the story at hand, but it is enhanced by the quality of the pages, front to back, and the efforts put in by all parties involved in the making of the books.

Aside from this new passion, I have many other passions and hobbies that I pursue outside of work and school. These include reading outside (weather permitting), crocheting, swimming lengths, running, salsa dancing, and traveling. I have also started training for a triathlon for the first time this summer!

In the near future, I am hoping to move to the UK to pursue my passion for teaching and receive my teaching certificate at Cardiff University. Living across the ocean will also give me plenty of opportunity to travel around the UK and Europe since it is much closer and cheaper! I have been privileged enough to live in Marburg, Germany for a semester during my undergrad where I was able to check off a lot of the countries on my bucket list, including Slovenia which is where my family is from.

I am eager to be learning from Conversation Tree Press and see what they, along with the many different partners and collaborators, have to offer me. I’m learning so much already!
