Over the last two weeks we’ve packed up and shipped out around 500 copies of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation—all of the Collector’s Editions and just over half of the Deluxe. Because of this we’re a little behind on emails, so thank you for your patience if you’re still waiting on a reply from us.

The rest of this email contains some important news about Foundation and Foundation and Empire.

Gregory Manchess Returns for Foundation and Empire

Award-winning illustrator Greg Manchess first brought Asimov’s world to life in Foundation with his cinematic, signature style. Now he returns for Foundation and Empire, contributing six new paintings reproduced as fold-out illustrations and six full-page pen-and-ink portraits printed letterpress.

You can see one of these fold-outs above: the Great Library of Trantor, where Ebling Mis searches tirelessly for the Second Foundation in hopes of gaining their aid against the Mule.

The scale and drama of Greg’s compositions capture both the grandeur of Asimov’s settings and the intensity of the story’s pivotal moments, and we’re extremely pleased to have him back for not only Foundation and Empire, but for Second Foundation as well.

Foundation Collector’s Editions Available Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Friday September 26th at 12pm ET we’ll have a few copies of the Collector’s Edition of Foundation up on the website at this link:

These come with rights to Foundation and Empire and will ship immediately as they’re already packed and ready to go. There are no copies of the Deluxe Edition or Lettered Editions available.

Rights Transfers Deadline

So that we have enough time to get everything ready for Foundation and Empire pre-orders, we won’t be accepting rights transfers for Foundation from October 1st 2025. So this means the last day that transfers will be accepted is September 30th.

Private Pre-Orders for Matching Copies

Private pre-orders for Collector’s and Deluxe Editions of Foundation and Empire will open on Monday October 6th, 2025 at 10am ET.

You will receive an email with the link at that time if you pre-ordered a copy of the Collector’s Edition or Deluxe Edition of Foundation directly from us, or if rights to Foundation and Empire were transferred to you.

This private pre-order period ends on Monday October 13th at 9:59am ET, after which unclaimed copies will be made available to the public.

Public Pre-Orders

Public pre-orders for remaining copies of Collector’s and Deluxe Editions of Foundation and Empire begin on Monday October 13th at 12pm ET.

Some Things To Note

If you pre-ordered a copy of Foundation from Subterranean Press or Kathmandu Books and you wish to pre-order Foundation and Empire, you should do so directly with them. This applies to both Collector’s Editions and Deluxe Editions.

We do not change shipping addresses if a pre-ordered book has been passed on to someone else. We only change addresses if the person who placed the pre-order moved. 

We expect pre-orders for Second Foundation, the third book in the trilogy, to begin in October 2026.
