Artist Reveal
A few weeks ago we announced that none other than Greg Rutkowski was illustrating the first of our six-volume limited edition of Michael Moorcock’s Chronicles of Elric. Today, we’re showing a bit more of his artwork and revealing the five other incredibly talented artists who are working on the remaining volumes. To say that we are thrilled at the talent on display in these volumes would be an understatement.
All six artists have either completed the illustrations for their respective books or are well underway, so we’re able to show you previews of the final artwork for some of them.
Volume 1: Elric of Melniboné—Greg Rutkowski

Greg completed his illustrations some time ago. Here’s a preview of Earl Aubec of Malador facing off against a golem from Master of Chaos.
Greg is known for his brooding skies and magnificent dragons—a signature style honed over more than fifteen years creating work for Wizards of the Coast, Sony, and Ubisoft, including dozens of Magic: The Gathering cards and Dungeons & Dragons covers. That signature is on full display in Elric of Melniboné.
The complete contents of Volume 1:
- Master of Chaos
- The Folk of the Forest
- And So the Great Emperor Received His Education
- Elric of Melniboné
Volume 2: The Fortress of the Pearl—Vance Kovacs

Vance Kovacs is hard at work on The Fortress of the Pearl. He’s at the sketching stage right now, so we’ll have more to share at a later date. The artwork above, from his other projects, gives you a good idea of what you can expect.
Vance is a professional concept artist and illustrator with over thirty years of experience across games, film, publishing, theme parks, and interactive media. He brings an eclectic skill set, fresh thinking, and creativity to every project.
The complete contents of Volume 2:
- The Fortress of the Pearl
- The Black Blade’s Song
Volume 3: The Sailor on the Seas of Fate—Julien Delval

Julien Delval’s paintings for The Sailor on the Seas of Fate are all finished and approved by the author. Here’s a preview of Erekosë, Corum, Hawkmoon, and Elric merged into the Four Who Are One.
Julien is a painter and illustrator known for his distinctive fantasy artwork. After studying fine art, he began his career illustrating for the role-playing company Multisim, which led to numerous book covers for various publishers. He later worked in comics and continues to contribute to the gaming industry. Represented by the Daniel Maghen Gallery, Julien also devotes time to personal work that explores ancient worlds, mythology, and fantasy, drawing inspiration from classical painting and twentieth-century imagery.
The complete contents of Volume 3:
- Introduction to the AudioRealms Version of The Sailor on the Seas of Fate
- The Sailor on the Seas of Fate
- The Dreaming City
- A Portrait in Ivory
Volume 4: The Sleeping Sorceress—Petar Meseldžija

Most of Petar Meseldžija’s sketches have been approved, and he’s already started painting. Here’s a crop of his work-in-progress painting of the Mist Giant that Elric faces in While the Gods Laugh. It’s different from Petar’s wonderful work on our edition of Rip Van Winkle, but very much within his wheelhouse. You can follow along on his Facebook to see more of his Elric and other work.
Petar is a painter and illustrator celebrated for his luminous and intricately detailed fantasy art. After studying painting at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, he began his career in comics before devoting himself fully to illustration and painting following his move to the Netherlands in 1991. His work has appeared in numerous illustrated books and has earned multiple Spectrum awards for contemporary fantastic art. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections worldwide.

Volume 5: The Revenge of the Rose—Ezer Vilela

Ezer Vilela has just started working on The Revenge of the Rose but is no stranger to illustrating Elric. Here’s a look at one of his earlier illustrations of the albino prince himself and Stormbringer.
The complete contents of Volume 5:
- The Revenge of the Rose
- The Stealer of Souls
Volume 6: Stormbringer—Marc Simonetti

Marc Simonetti needs little introduction. His art has shaped how readers see the worlds of A Song of Ice and Fire, The Name of the Wind, Dune, and so much more—and now Elric joins that esteemed company. Here’s a first look at Elric facing the King from the Hill and his undead host from Kings in Darkness.
The complete contents of Volume 6:
- Kings in Darkness
- The Flame Bringers
- The Last Enchantment
- To Rescue Tanelorn
- Stormbringer
We are very proud of the entire team working on Chronicles of Elric. In addition to the artists above, Svetlana Molodchenko contributed beautiful calligraphy and decorations, and Emily Benton, who did the typesetting on Perdido Street Station, is bringing her talent to this series as well. We also have the team at Ludlow Bookbinders doing the binding, and Nomad Letterpress on the letterpress printing.
When we started working on this series two years ago, we could only have dreamed of working with a team like this. Everyone involved has already poured an immense amount of time into these books already, and we’re in a really great position at the moment. Looking forward to sharing more with you on October 14th.
