Treasure Island Wins 1st Place at Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design

Treasure Island Wins 1st Place at Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design

I’m immensely pleased to announce that our Standard Edition of R.L. Stevenson’s Treasure Island has won first place at The Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada in the Limited Edition category. This comes after our Deluxe Edition of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan placed second last year.

Treasure Island was designed in close collaboration with Marc Castelli over many months, and the printing and binding were beautifully done by the teams at Nomad Letterpress and Ludlow Bookbinders respectively. I wrote about much of the printing, illustrating, and typesetting of the book in a few blog posts last year.

Marc and I are working on another book together, nautical in theme and in a similar format to Treasure Island

Though the edition has long been sold out, we have a handful of dinged (slightly imperfect) copies of the Deluxe Edition going up for sale at this link tomorrow Tuesday April 15th at 10am ET.

The winning books from the competition are exhibited both nationally and internationally, and nominated for the Best Book Design from all over the World competition in Leipzig, Germany. A copy will also become a part of the permanent collection at Deutsches Buch- und Schriftmuseum (German Museum of Books and Writing).

It is an honour again to find ourselves in the company of other presses and book makers whose work I’ve long admired over the years.
