The Standard, Deluxe and Lettered states of our letterpress-printed, limited edition of Peter Pan will go on sale at 12pm ET on October 26th 2022. This post includes details on time zones, shipping, rights, purchase limits, and payment options.

On the evening of 27th December, 1904, Nina Boucicault took the stage at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London’s West End for the very first theatre performance of Peter Pan. Her costume, designed by William Nicholson, was made to resemble “autumn leaves and cobwebs,” featuring crimson, burgundy, brown and olive. Our Lettered State, it’s enclosure and ephemera, draws inspiration from this original Peter Pan design.

I bought my first Weird book about twenty years ago in a small bookstore in Guyana. This was an uncommon event for two reasons. Firstly, being one of the only two bookstores of note at the time in the entire country, one didn’t often come across books that sounded interesting enough to buy. And secondly, the purchase was based only on the cover art and blurb at the back as the bookstore didn’t let you actually leaf through any of the books. A rule enthusiastically enforced by an employee who was always within line of sight.

The Deluxe state is hand bound by Ludlow Bookbinders in a sumptuous, deep green goatskin leather. The spine has five raised bands and a maroon label with gold tooling above and below. The front board is foil stamped in copper with an illustration, title lettering and the names of the author and artist. Inspired by the Deluxe state of the first edition of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, illustrated by Arthur Rackham, Charles’ new iconic take on the younger Peter sees him riding a swan while accompanied by fairies under the moonlight.

The Standard State is handbound by Ludlow Bookbinders in quarter Apple Green Cialux book cloth and Art Nouveau decorative papers from Rossi, both made in Italy. In addition to butterflies, flowers, and flecks of gold, birds are prominently featured on this paper, alluding to Peter’s status of being caught “betwixt-and-between” a boy and a bird in Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.
